As part of the new structure, Steve Swanson and Shakil Ahmed have been named co-heads of Global Electronic Trading. Swanson was formerly the CEO of ATD, which was acquired by Citi in 2007, while Ahmed, who joined Citi in early 2008, previously led the process driven trading group at Morgan Stanley.
"I think Shakil's expertise in quantitative analysis aligns very closely with my market structure background and we're bringing a tremendous group of people together," says Swanson.
He explains that the new electronic trading group brings together pieces within the firm to make sure order flow travel seamlessly through the organization.
In particular Swanson says this covers options trading, market making in equities, algorithms, matching engines such as the firm's dark pool Citi Match and routing systems. "This is a global franchise and we're taking the success we've had here in the U.S. and making it global," says Swanson. Citi has made significant investments in the electronic trading space and is now working to bring the integrated platforms and products to customers.
He adds, "The goal is for a customer to use one of our algorithms or Citi Match in any location and have a very similar trading experience no matter where in the world they are trading."
The reorganization also includes the following appointments: Jonathon Fletcher will be responsible for ATD and automated market making in the Asia Pacific region and will continue to spearhead the electronic trading platform development; Ryan Gould and Steve Williams will be responsible for strategy and development of the systematic derivatives trading platform in addition to their responsibilities in relative value options trading and European options market making respectively; Dan Keegan will be global head of institutional sales as well as global head of Citi Match; Jeff Martin will be head of ATD and will be responsible for proprietary broker-dealer trading as well; Chuck Mogilevsky will be CAO and CFO of global electronic trading; Kevin Murphy will be head of U.S option electronic execution; Shane Swanson will be head of electronic transaction services at Lava; Jack Vensel will be head of electronic trading in EMEA; and Slade Winchester will be head of sell-side options electronic execution.
